Talk about a grand opening! Even without glamorous baby mamma Beyonce at his side, Jay-Z succeeded in throwing a party last night at his 40/40 Club that felt pre-recession fabulous. Along with the stunning Midtown venue's reported $10 million in renovations, there was plenty of free champagne — the music mogul's signature Ace of Spades — and there were so many movers and shakers that the venue was one big VIP area.
To celebrate 40/40 Club relaunch, the music mogul took a break from diaper duty (in case you hadn't heard, his and Beyonce's daughter, Blue Ivy, arrived last week) to mingle at the invite-only VIP bash. Following his show-stopping entrance, Jay-Z took a tour of the multi-level, 12,000 square-foot venue to personally view its upgraded private rooms autographed sports memorabilia. At one point, he stopped to chat with the only person in the room likely to have more money than him: business magnate Warren Buffet.
Also putting in appearances were Ashanti, Roots frontman Questlove, Yankee C.C. Sabathia, and Spike Lee, who ignored the invite's request for formal attire in favor of head-to-toe Giants gear. (Though a number of Big Blue players were expected to walk the red carpet, none of them made it.)
Tonight 40/40 reopens to the public. Reservations are available through NiteTables for this Sunday's NFL playoffs games as well as birthdays, bachelor parties and private events.
